My prayer for Caedmon today on his first day of Kindergarten... august 19th 2009

Lord,
I pray that Caedmon will have a deep reverence for You and Your ways. May he hide Your Word in his heart like a treasure, and seek after understanding like silver or gold. Give him a good mind, a teachable spirit, and an ability to learn. Instill in him a desire to attain knowledge and skill, and may he have joy in the process. Above all, I pray that he will be taught by You, for Your Word says that when our children are taught by You they are guaranteed peace. You have also said, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction" (Proverbs 1:7). May he never be a fool and turn away from learning, but rather may he turn to You for the knowledge he needs.
I pray he will respect the wisdom of his parents and be willing to be taught by them. May he also have the desire to be taught by the teachers You bring into his life. Handpick each one, Lord, and may they be godly people from whom he can easily learn. Take out of his life any teacher who would be an ungodly influence or create a bad learning experience. Let him find favor with his teachers and have good communication with them. Help him to excel in school and do well in any classes he may take. Make the pathways of learning smooth and not something with which he must strain and struggle. Connect everything in his brain the way it is supposed to be so that he has clarity of thought, organization, good memory, and strong learning ability.
I say to him according to Your Word, "Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge" (Proverbs 23:12). "May the Lord give you understanding in all things" (2 Timothy 2:7). Lord, enable him to experience the joy of learning more about You and Your world.
In Your Holy Name, Amen.

Little did I know as I typed this post last Wednesday, our precious little daughter had been born just hours earlier that morning. My day on Wednesday, August 19th 2009 started out reading these verses:

Psalm 126
1It seemed like a dream, too good to be true, when God returned Zion's exiles. 2 We laughed we sang, we couldn't believe our good fortune. We were the talk of the nations- "God was wonderful to them!" 3 God was wonderful to us; we are one happy people. 4 And now, God, do it again-bring rains to our drought-stricken lives 5 Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. 6 So those who went off with heavy hearts will come home laughing, with armloads of blessing.

A coincidence that I read those very verses that morning? I think not.

I took Caedmon to his class that morning for his very first day of kindergarten and came home to continue on with my day. Around 1:30 in the afternoon I received a phone call that made my stomach do a complete flip flop. It was our adoption agency informing us that our baby had been born that morning at 2:33 am...the papers had already been signed...and that we were to come AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because our daughter was there waiting for us. "It seemed like a dream, too good to be true."

I immediately called Kevin and shared the news with tears in my eyes. While he drove home, I scurried around the house, throwing the things together that I had already begun packing. I'm so glad that I had most everything already packed....my mind just couldn't think at that moment. Kaiya commented that I "looked like I was in a hurry!"

We picked up Caedmon from school, dropped the kids at my mom's and headed straight to Anderson. If I could have sprouted wings and flown at that moment...I would have! When we were 20 minutes away, we came upon an accident...traffic was at a halt. We sat there forever it seemed. I finally said a prayer "God please help us through this!". Immediately, the traffic started to move. "Thank you, Lord!!!" I should have prayed sooner!

We got to the hospital and were taken right up to see our new daughter.

Luca Bella

"beautiful light"

5 pounds 15 ounces 18 1/2 inches of sweetness

"God was wonderful to us; we are one happy people!"

"Those who sow in tears, will reap with shouts of joy!"

The rest of the evening was spent holding our sweet little daughter and getting to know her. What an incredible blessing it was to get to see and hold her on her birth date...to stay right by her side and know she was ours...forever. We felt so privileged and blessed to be able to have our own room at the hospital and care for our beautiful Luca Bella ourselves.

"those who went off with heavy hearts will come home laughing, with armloads of blessing!

How could one day be so full, yet every part come together in such a wonderful way? Our God is awesome! How we rejoice in the restoration of hope and laughter. Luca Bella is indeed a "beautiful light." It's a fitting name for this litle sweetheart. Caedmon, Mommy's prayer for you is very special. May the door to learning be a a walkway to wisdom.
